La voz de Hibari en español

ESPAÑOL

¡Buenas!

"Test Room" video footage

ENGLISH

->Tag "Videos" added!

Welcome one more time to the Spirit Huntress Development Blog! Today I uploaded a video (it was about time...) on Youtube with a bit of gameplay footage. This video shows only some "test rooms", so don't expect too much in terms of background or tilesets. Only grease background and black squares with X's inside as platforms. Fuck yeah! At least you can see some nice Hibari sprite animations (like running, walking, jumping, spinning, walljumping, climbing, crouching...).

You can watch the video here: (watch it in 1080 p. if you can)

Moving on other things, I'm looking for a voice actress for Hibari. I've already asked to some very qualified voice actress I found on YT, and I'm waiting for response. However, if you are a girl, have a nice and adult voice, and like to dub video game characters, you can contact me to my e-mail: itoaragon@hotmail.com. I'm ready to pay for it if need be.

Well, I hope you enjoy the video. Soon, very soon, the demo version of this project will be released and you will be able to play it! Meanwhile, enjoy my superfluous blog posts. Bye!

ESPAÑOL

¡Bienvenidos otra vez a mi blog!

¡No obstante podeis ir postulandoos si os place!

Characters: Hibari

English translation:

"Hibari is a 25 years old kunoichi living in the big city of Ouranos. Her job is the ancestral art of soul purging, what she learned very young from her grandmother. She was raised by her grandfathers at a little house in Kyodaina mt. since their fathers died on a fire when she was a baby. She inherited a little fortune, but she works eliminating the threat of disturbed spirits from different villages, charging small amounts to the villagers.
She got from her grandmother her spiritual weapon: the spiritual Wakizashi, a powerfull weapon able to harm bodies corrupted by disturbed souls.
Since she was a little girl, she was very "special": she could run faster than other kids; she was able to jump higher and farther, and she was stronger than her school mates.
The origin of her powers is a complete mistery, but she thinks ancient spirits may have something to do with it. She feels them around her, protecting her own soul, and some times she can see them or even hear them; but she can't understand what they are saying.
She wears a special ninja outfit made by her grandmother as a present, and altough she likes to work alone, she always takes with her a little bot called A-00 wich is able to detect spiritual energy.
Her story in this game starts when she hears rumors about a big beast possesed by a disturbed soul, destroying a little city called "Atalaya".."

Desert Facility

ENGLISH
->Game OST Updated (Desert Facility)!
->Featured Fan Art Updated (Hibari by Alien)!

Welcome again, and happy Halloween! As promised, here I am one more time, willing to show you some of my lastest efforts with this project.

Recently, I have been working in this game level (or "location") called the "Desert Facility". This place is some kind of "base" or "research facility", built over ancient ruins found in the middle of a big canon called "The Red Desert".

It's purpose is a complete mistery, however. What's a big laboratory like this doing in the middle of a wasteand? Why is it built specifically over those ruins, covering them? and why does it looks so empty?

There's no doubt that the place was abandoned years ago. But that doesn't mean the security devices of the facility aren't working. In fact, they will become very active as soon as Hibari steps into the abandoned station...

At first it's pretty dark inside there... Good luck A-00, Hibari's auxiliar bot, can light the way a little bit.

So the first thing you'll have to do here is restore the power system. There must be some kind of generator out there...

Once you get to restore the power, you will get to see the place and to use the facility's mechanisms: switches, elevators, doors, etc.

Now you can check out the place to find hidden items, and to find out the purpose of the facility.

This level is not very huge since it's one of the firsts place you'll get to; but there are some hidden areas and shortcuts; so if you could get some help...

That is! You can download on your A-00 the zone map; so you can check out what rooms you have to visit yet. The map will also display dots showing the location of some hidden item, upgrade, weapon, etc. And of course, it will show your ubication. What you won't get to see there is your objetive: the place you have to go. I don't like games that show you were to go so easily. So you'll have to figure out where's the right room to go.

And well, that was a big lot of screen caps, my readers. But that isn't all! Be sure to check the new Game OST theme (Deser Facility Theme) and the featured artwork by my friend Alien!

I hope you enjoyed this post, since it has so much new info to see, read and listen!

Thank you for your visit and keep coming back for new updates about the game!

The H.U.D

ENGLISH

Hi everyone! One more time I'm here updating this little thingy. I'm sorry for that big time lapse between the last posts; but I'm a little busy here. I get to keep making my game everyday; but that doesn't mean I'm posting everything I do here!
Anyway, today I have not much time, so this is going to be a short post after all.

I've been working on many things, and one of these is the game HUD (Head-Up Display). It won't be very complicated (Health bar, magic bar and secondary weapon icon) but it's totally customized (not to mention it's not the default game maker health bar; it's 100% original code).

Take a look:

Like it? The blue bar is for the health; the green bar is the spiritual energy (a.k.a. magic power) and that "surikein" is the current secondary weapon Hibari has equiped. I don't know if the "ninja scroll" background is suitable or not. Opinions on this?
Oh, those numbers right to the bars, are the "containers" left. You know, like the health containers in metroid, or the lifes in any super mario game (Except that here, you don't die when you loose a life). You begin with 0 refills of each one, and later you can upgrade your status by finding hidden items.
The secondary weapon can be chosen between some others pressing "Shift". Shurikein, Kunai, Kaginawa and many others will be avalaible together with the maing weapon, the Spiritual Wakizashi (some kind of short katana also called ninjato).

Before I go I'd like to show you a little pixel art. Well, it may not be little after all... Do you know this awesome indie game called Minecraft? (if no, go here and have fun) I've made a little Hibari pixel art there, inside a multiplayer server called "Creative Minds"; in the room called "Test" (type /goto test to get there from the main room). You can see some screenshots right down:

In the center of the image you can see the original pixel art I based to make the sculpture.
Hope you like it!

One last thing... the next post will have some in game screenshots, and some new original music, ok? Stay tunned!

Adding depth to the stages

ENGLISH

-> Game OST updated (The Haven)!
-> Featured fan art updated (Hibari by Oken)!

Hi again, everyone! Today I'd like to show you a very important change I've made to the game stages look. If you go back to some old post and take a look to some old screenshot, you may notice that the point of view consists of a one-point perspective (full frontal view, without depth).
After thinking about it, i thought, what if I use a two-point perspective, so the player can see what's behind/ in front of the walls? What if I use this new dimension to improve the exploration? And of course I answered myself: YES. Have a look to some examples:

As you can see, now the point of view has changed a little, what I seized to make some changes to this desert stage, enhancing some little details here and there.
This new situation sure makes harder drawing and designing the game levels, however the results worth it. Here are some other screenshots:

>Noticed the new background picture? Do you like it more than the other one? Slaying biped robots feels better like this, man!

>Also, running animation. Looking good?

>Secrets, secrets everywhere.

That's a big bunch of screenshots, if you ask me. So I think that's enough today.
As you see, I worked hard these last days improving the game grapichs. But that's not all!
I've composed 3 new themes for the Game OST (one of them, "Haven", is now avalaible in the "Game OST" section, right under the chat box) wich sound pretty good, thanks to the master composer "Aurial/Sonata", who made a stunning .sf2 pack for FLStudio, including wonderful japanese ethnic soundfonts and samples (like Shakuhachi, Koto, Shamisen, Fiddle, Taiko, etc). Thank you master for this valuable gift!
Aside from music, I've worked a lot in the game code. I've added some new moves to the Hibari moveset, wich is now closer to being complete (around 40% I'd say). However, I'm facing some bugs in terms of collisions, but I hope to solve them soon.
Also started to design some kind of "world map", placing every stage in a huge map, so I can thing of new ways to link the game levels between them, and to decide the order you'll visit them.
That also made me think about the way our dear Hibari is going to travel around the world (wich is not "small" precisely). The original game back in 2005 was smaller and I planned to make you go walking all the time. But now I think I may include some kind of vehicle, that can be used just to go back to places you've already been to; and never to discover new locations. This vehicle would be driven by some character you'll meet someday in this blog, and could be used to get out of the level anywhen you want. Opinions on this?

And that's all by now, my dear readers. Please, stay tuned for new posts! The day I'll release a little demo of the game is getting closer!

¡Exacto! He decidido añadir profundidad a los escenarios.

¡Muchas gracias, maestro!

Me despido y me voy a seguir estudiando :P.

New Screenshots - Nuevas imágenes

ENGLISH
->Game OST Updated (Menu Theme)!

Welcome again to the Spirit Huntress Development Blog! I've been working really hard learning the GML, making music for the game OST (using FLStudio 8) and some sprite animations for Hibari, the main character of the game.

Today I'd like to show you some screens about something I've been working recently: the water enviroment, and the wall-jumping.

I made some kind of "beta scenario" to test the water engine. You can see it at the screen below, but please notice that is only a beta version, and may not be nothing compared to what you see in the final version of the game (although I plan to do some kind of "water cave" level in the final game).

I didn't know what kind of water enviroment include in the game. Super Mario bros. kind? Maybe a Metroid/Sonic the hedgehog kind? After too much thinking, I decided to use the Metroid/Sonic one: you sink into the water until you reach the bottom, and you can't swim; however; you can jump higher, and when you are underwater, you move very very slowly.
Of course, your O2 is not unlimited. You'll have to get out the water to catch a breath, or else you'll drown.

Other thing I've been working very hard in, is the wall-jumping issue. When in the air, near to a wall, you can press the direction key pointing to the wall and the jump key ("S") to wall-jump against the wall, and reach taller places. You can do it several times to climb up narrow paths.

I'm like a newbie to Game Maker, but I managed to program a double jump and a wall-jump engine succesfully, thanks to some tutorials in Yo-yo Games, and of course, tons of patience.

But it's not programming all I've been working about. I've compossed two .mp3 songs for the game. One of them, the Main Menu Theme (you know, where you can choose between New Game, Continue, Extras, or Exit) is finished. I've updated the "Game OST" gadget you can find just below the Chatboard. I hope you like it!

This is all for now. Wait for another post the next week, showing new screenshots, a new Game OST theme, and maybe a new featured fanart! Thank you for reading!

Welcome-Bienvenidos

ENGLISH

Welcome to the new Spirit Huntress Blog! Here you can follow the latest news about this project: releases, screenshots, gameplay, levels, bosses, etc.
You may have noticed this is a bilingual blog... I'll do my best to translate my posts from spanish (my mother language) to english; but I can easily make a lot of mistakes. If that happens; please, forgive me, and do not hesitate to tell me what's wrong with my english.

Moving on the game itself, I can say that Spirit Huntress is being developed with the Game Maker 8 tool. This software provides me the freedom I need to create graphics and code, and for me, it works pretty fine. Taking advantage of the Game Maker Language (GML), this tool has little to envy other platforms. I use adobe Photoshop CS2 to create the graphics, and FLStudio 8 for the original sound track.

Spirit Huntress takes place in some kind of post-apocalyptic future, where only a few cities remain, as a mirage of what they once were. The rest of the world is a wild place, full of all kinds of live (including mutants). And attached to every single life, there is a spirit.
What would you call a spirit in this game? a spirit is just a form that the vital energy within every beign can adopt. Spirits, as a rule, wander around the human world, until they find the place where they rest forever. They are invisible, intangible; they can't be noticed. Except by some people with special powers. However, not every spirit is that kind. Some of them get disturbed by evil forces, and become violent. The posses other creatures, turning them into monsters, and making them immortal.

The main character of the game, Hibari, is a 25 years old girl, true to the traditions of her family. She is what is called a "Spirit Huntress", some kind of hunter dedicated to find and "chase" or "purge" disturbed spirits. Hibari is a very self-confident, strong and disciplined girl, who learnt the art of ninjitsu from her grandmother.
A-00 is a little bot with some tracking capabilities, constructed by her grandfather before dying, and being her only partner.

The game will take you to a remarkable variety of levels, like isolated canyons, underwater caves, futuristics cities, ancient temples, and maybe places out of the human world.

Using the traditional "2d platform scroller" formula, Spirit Huntress will make you jump, run, double jump, wall jump, climb, fight with many weapons, defeat giantic bosses, and find a large amount of secrets.

Well, that was a summary of the game. It's only left to say that the game will use 100% original graphics and music, and that it's going to be released anytime soon :)

Seriously, this game is still in development. This is like a "developer journal" or something like that; so you can just come here, sit down, and learn about the last advances Spirit Huntress gets.
I try to always show one or two screens, so you can do something aside from reading.
For example, you already can listen to one of the game Original Sound Track themes, (look below the chatbox). Screenshots, however, will have to wait a day or two, for I don't want to show anything yet.

Nah, fuck it. Enjoy a little screenshot.

I hope you like it, and that you enjoy reading my blog. Thank you very much!
